England Goalkeeper Mary Earps named Sports Personality of the Year

England's Goalkeeper Mary Earps has been name the Sports Personality of the Year for 2023.

Earps was part of a six person shortlist selected by a panel before the public were able to vote for their chosen sportsperson, with Cricket star Stuart Broad finishing second, whilst heptathlon champion Katrina Johnson-Thompson finished third.

Earps won the Golden Glove at the Women's World Cup earlier this year as England were beaten finalists against Spain. During the tournament she was very critical of Nike who supply the teams official kit, as her goalkeeper jersey was unavailable to purchase.

After highlighting the issue the public awareness led Nike to release a limited number of her jersey, which sold out immediately.

She follows fellow Lionesses star Beth Mead in winning the award, which she claimed last year after the team's Euros triumph.

There were a host of other football related winners on the night, with Manchester City and Pep Guardiola winning Team of the Year and Coach of the Year respectively.

Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish also received the Lifetime Achievment Award.
