Craig died at the age of 82 and is Scotland's longest ever serving manager, overseeing two successful qualifications to major tournaments, guiding his nation to Euro 96 and the 1998 World Cup.

That was followed by spells in club football at Preston North End, Motherwell and Aberdeen, where he was later invited to be a board member and latterly a club ambassador.

It was during his time at Preston that FTD Managing Director John Booth first met Craig, forming a lasting friendship that went well beyond both their time at the club.

Craig was a big supporter of ours and we were delighted to have him as a guest speaker on more than one occasion at our networking events. 

It was a true testament to his character that he came to our Hampden Park event last year just to support one of his former players for both Scotland and Preston, Graham Alexander, who still referred to him as 'gaffer'.

Speaking about Craig's passing John said 'I have met literally hundreds of people in my time in football and few can match Craig's kindness and generosity in what is a generally a selfish industry.
Since working with him when were both at Preston North End over 20 years ago he has always been a great support and helped me whenever he could.
It was a privilege to have called him a friend and my thoughts are with his family and loved ones- he will be sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure to know him.'
