Nuneaton Borough's ground given reprieve from development

The 'home' of Nuneaton Borough Football Club has been safeguarded from development - for now. Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has revealed that it has renewed Nuneaton Borough Football Club to remain an Asset of Community Value (ACV).

There have long been rumours that the ultimate plan for Liberty Way is to build on it. An ACV status means that, should the ground be sold, supporters and the community could buy it.

An ACV also gives planning powers to stop the land being used for other uses. Just before Christmas, Mark Axon, a member of the Nuneaton Borough Supporters Co-operative, asked the council to renew the ACV.

The request came as the bitter row that has seen the football club denied any access to the Liberty Way ground rumbles on. There have long been rumours that the ultimate plan for Liberty Way is to build on it.

But now the council has said that the renewal of the ACV shows that the land is of 'importance to the local community'. It will remain on the council’s records for a minimum of five years.
