Premier League side Southampton become first team to be relegated across top four divisions
Southampton's 3-1 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday confirmed their relegation back to the Championship, as they became the first side to be officially relegated across the EPL and EFL.
With seven games to spare the Saints are 22 points behind 17th placed Wolves and are on course to break the Premier League record of fewest points won with 10, should they not pick up any more points before the end of the season.
It means an immediate return to the Championship for the south coast side after their play-off success last season.
It's also been widely reported that manager Ivan Juric is expected to depart before the end of the season, having taken over from Russel Martin in December.
It looks increasingly likely that they will be joined by fellow promoted sides Leicester City and Ipswich, who are both toiling and are 15 and 12 points from safety respectively. This would mean all three promoted sides have immediately been relegated for the second season running.
Elsewhere the relegation places are far from certain, with a number of teams battling to avoid the drop in the Championship, whilst in League One Shrewsbury could be relegated if they lose their next game and results go against them.
Carlisle United meanwhile face an uphill battle to stay the in the Football League as they sit 8 points adrift at the foot of League Two.
